SAMSUNG SDI has announced its participation in InterBattery Europe 2025, which will be held at Messe Munich in Germany from May 7 to 9, spurring efforts to expand into the global energy storage market including Europe.
InterBattery Europe is one of the exhibitions within The Smarter E Europe, Europe’s Largest Alliance of Exhibitions for the Energy Industry, with more than 200 companies expected to participate this year.
At this year’s exhibition, SAMSUNG SDI will showcase a wide range of next-generation battery products and innovations under the slogan “Incelligent Life, Always ON,” highlighting how battery technology can continuously connect with and enhance our daily lives. The company plans to focus on its ESS battery technology tailored for the AI era, featuring products with enhanced safety and improved user convenience.
Introducing new UPS product with high power and energy density
SAMSUNG SDI will unveil the U8A1, a new battery designed for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems. A UPS is an essential system that provides back up power to facilities such as data centers during power outage. The U8A1 combines high power output with high energy density, delivering optimal efficiency in a small space. It is especially designed to meet the needs of AI data centers, which are growing in demand with the recent rise of generative AI.
Also, on the display will be SAMSUNG Battery Box (SBB) 1.5. SBB is an ESS solution for power that installs battery cells, modules, and racks in a 20-feet container box. The SBB 1.5 features advanced safety capabilities through the application of Enhanced Direct Injection (EDI) technology, which prevents battery thermal diffusion by spraying fire extinguishing agents directly onto the modules.
Named as a final list for ‘The Smarter E Award’, proving technological innovation
SAMSUNG SDI has been named a finalist for The Smarter E Award, becoming the only Korean battery company to be recognized for its technological innovation.
The awards recognize groundbreaking products and technologies across five categories: Energy Storage, E-Mobility, Solar, Smart Energy, and Best Project. The top-rated technologies in each category are shortlisted as finalists, from which the final winners will be selected and awarded.
SAMSUNG SDI was selected as a finalist in both the Energy Storage category for its new high-power U8A1, and the E-Mobility category for its No Thermal Propagation (No PT) safety technology.
This year, a total of 46 products and technologies were shortlisted across the five categories. China and Germany led the way with 16 finalist each, followed by South Korea (SAMSUNG SDI), Austria, and Spain each with two.
“SAMSUNG SDI will showcase its portfolio of ESS batteries optimized for a wide range of customer applications at the exhibition,” said a SAMSUNG SDI official. “Visitors will be able to get a glimpse how SAMSUNG SDI’s ESS batteries are connected to everyday life.”
