With the introduction of the Elli Charger 2, the first smart charger in Europe, Volkswagen Group Charging GmbH (Elli) has showcased its most recent breakthrough in sustainable charging solutions. The Elli Charger 2 is an innovative mix of solar surplus and price-optimized charging that enables electric vehicles (EVs) to charge at the most economical and ecologically beneficial periods. It is made to interface with household solar power systems.
Using smart technology, the Elli Charger 2 optimizes the use of renewable energy by charging electric vehicles (EVs) during periods of abundant solar power or low electricity market pricing. This is a major step forward for households in their energy transformation, allowing them to save expenses and dependency on grid electricity.
The innovation’s significance was highlighted by Giovanni Palazzo, CEO of Elli and SVP of Volkswagen Charging & Energy, who said, “Our new charger helps make charging electric cars even more environmentally friendly by ensuring that EVs are charged when green electricity is readily available and cheap.” Furthermore, a framework for using EVs as energy storage to support power grid stabilization is being developed.
To further incorporate renewable energy into homes, Elli has teamed up with Otovo, a Norwegian marketplace for solar electricity. Along with the Elli Charger 2, German customers may now purchase a whole solar power system, with installations available at a few Volkswagen dealerships in Hamburg, Ulm, and Augsburg. The partnership is a part of a trial program that will soon spread throughout Europe.
